Kerosene Leak
Our team in the North have been dealing with a long-term leak of an unknown volume of kerosene (but assumed large volume) from an internal OTL at this Grade II listed property gave rise to significant olfactory impacts within the house. Further investigations recorded contamination to the concrete floor, underlying soils and internal and external masonry. The point of loss was beneath a stone staircase adjacent an external rubble-filled, stone wall. Seed carried out concrete floor slab removal, excavations incorporating four underpinning bays, in-situ Chemical Oxidant treatments to soils beneath the staircase and foundational blockwork and stonework. In-situ treatment negated the requirement for internal, foundational blockwork replacement, resulting in a cost saving to our client. A hydrocarbon vapour membrane was installed across the footprint of the excavation to mitigate any future build-up of residual vapours, and a quantitative air sample was collected to confirm works had been successful. A new floor slab was laid and internal finishing's were reinstated to the homeowners satisfaction.
