Loss of Kerosene to Ground

Seed Environmental were recently instructed to attend a domestic site south of Oxford following an external loss of kerosene to ground. Seed were informed upon instruction that kerosene odours were present around a nearby watercourse, located 30m to the south of the spill origin. Seed attended site and identified free phase kerosene present on the pond and successfully contained this over a 120m2 area. The site team deployed various types of oil absorbents and booms to mitigate downstream migration. Vacuum tankers were used to aid the on-site remedial works and collection of free-phase kerosene. Due to the prominent position of the spill adjacent to a network of footpaths, Seed visited the site regularly to replenish spent absorbents and to monitor the watercourse. There has been a significant improvement to the surface water quality since the start of the remedial works, which are currently on-going.
